The amounts paid for enterprise software license vary greatly based on what the buyer needs and their knowledge on how to buy ERP. An informed buyer can arrange ERP license and maintenance costs for about half what the average buyer pays, with considerably better terms and much more buyer control over time.
Cloud-based ERP Costs: Cloud-based ERP (AKA: software as a service [SAAS]) offerings typically have the following attributes:
- Monthly payment instead of a large check up front for software licenses.
- The business software application is hosted.
- Users access the application through a web browser.
Upfront costs on these types of ERP are lower, but if non-cloud ERP is purchased correctly the breakeven point can be as soon as 5 years—and then the cloud-based offering will be more expensive. Also, the non-cloud ERP sellers can offer financial arrangements to significantly model the cash flow of a cloud-based offering.
