Understanding ERP Comparison Data
ERP in the database are assessed and attributed based on the sizes (in revenue) and industry types of customers using the ERP product. These attributes don’t change rapidly, and are used for creating ERP lists for a particular user. When producing a list of ERP, these ERP attributes are referred to as ‘History of Use’ measures and have the following three levels:
Procedures to produce an ERP Comparison list:
- Pop-ups: Disable any pop-up blockers for this website—as needed.
- Key criterion: Using the ERP comparison database query form, select a company size range for your business (projected company size in 3 to 5 years). This step is required to enable ERP listing results to be generated.
- Optional criteria: Select other optional values for primary industry and secondary industry as is relevant. In most cases, to reasonably narrow the list, pick the primary industry.
- Adding an ERP: If the ERP list does not include an ERP for which you have an interest, select the control ‘Add Specific ERP to report’ and then search for the ERP to add to the list. If found, select it, and once this form is closed, the new ERP will be added to the existing list. Three additional ERP may be added.
- Printing the report: Select one of the Print controls and follow the instructions.
ERP Not Listed: Some ERP software products are not included in this ERP list as they are or were:
- Not significantly suitable for use in manufacturing and/or distribution firms.
- Overall considered weak in market presence or significantly dated technology.
- Not effectively supported in the North American market.
- An add-on solution to a base ERP that attempts to make the base ERP suitable for a particular vertical industry.
Cloud ERP Status: Most ERP in this ERP database can be offered remotely or 'in the Cloud' through various means. Accessing ERP remotely relieves the buyer from managing hardware and software, which is usually good. However, everything else about remote access ERP is largely designed to benefit the ERP seller unilaterally. At the top of the list are unbounded options to increase fees to customers who cannot change ERP without great cost and risk. Industry-specific ERP add-on software: Some ERP sellers partner with independent software developers that build industry-specific vertical solutions that are integrated to the original ERP. For a variety of reasons it is not practical to list multiple instances of the ERP with all of the various industry-specific add-on software—although there are a few exceptions in the database. The SoftSelect ERP database attempts to reasonable reflect the presence of known and stable industry-specific add-ons with the industry type criterion.
Open Source ERP: There are a few open source ERP in the ERP comparison database—however others were excluded based on general risks with depending on such a software for critical business process support.
