ERP Comparison Database – Design Approach

  1. ERP Assessment Criteria: ERP in the database are assessed and attributed based on the sizes (in revenue) and industry types of companies that use the ERP application.
The status of an ERP, relative to these attributes, doesn’t change rapidly and are not difficult to determine. Further these criteria are at about the right level of information granularity to be relevant.
Therefore these criteria are especially appropriate for creating ERP long-lists for a particular user.
  2. Criteria not used: The following types of information are inherently unsuitable for an online ERP listing:
    • Detailed functionality—click here for our white paper on why functionality capability charts are subject to compounding errors.
    • ERP access costs—such information presented generally is guaranteed to be absolutely inaccurate for informed buyers. Initial and ongoing costs a buyer may achieve vary greatly based on a number of factors which are described here.
  3. ERP Not Listed: Some ERP software products are not included in this ERP database as they are:
    • Not significantly suitable for use in manufacturing and/or distribution firms.
    • Overall considered weak in market presence or have significantly dated technology.
    • Not effectively supported in the North American market.
    • An add-on solution to a base ERP that is offered to make the base ERP suitable for a particular vertical industry (some exceptions if the add-on is substantial).
  4. Cloud ERP Status:  Most ERP in this ERP database can be offered remotely or 'in the Cloud' through various means.
Accessing ERP remotely relieves the buyer from managing hardware and software, which is usually good.
However, everything else about remote access ERP is largely designed to benefit the ERP seller unilaterally. At the top of the list are unbounded options to increase fees to customers who cannot change ERP without great cost and risk.
